Heating/Cooling Energy Consumption Reported When Heating/Cooling Is Off

Modified on Thu, 15 Oct at 11:39 AM

A possible reason for seeing heating/cooling electricity consumption when heating or cooling is switched off is the VRF indoor unit parameter “Zone terminal unit off parasitic electric energy use”. If these values are non-zero, the VRF indoor unit can still consume standby/parasitic electricity while the coil is not operating.

This energy consumption is reported according to the indoor unit’s previous operating mode. If the unit was previously operating in heating mode, the standby energy is reported as heating electricity consumption. If the previous mode was cooling, it is reported as cooling electricity consumption. Because of this behavior, small heating/cooling energy values may appear when heating/cooling is currently off.

Setting them to zero removes the standby/parasitic consumption from the reported heating/cooling electricity use.
