How to model trees

Load Trees from Assembly Library

The easiest way to include the shading effect of trees in your energy and daylighting models is to load tree assemblies from the assembly library provided with DesignBuilder. If your model was first created in v7.3 or later, you can load tree assemblies directly from the library using the guidance provided in the program help at:

https://designbuilder.co.uk/helpv7.3/#AssemblyBlock.htm

Note: if your model was initially created in an earlier version of DesignBuilder (pre-v7.3), you should first update the Assembly library to include the trees by following the instructions in the "Updating the Assembly Library" section at the bottom of this help page:

https://designbuilder.co.uk/helpv7.3/#AssemblyLibrary.htm

Using Component Blocks

You can also include the shading effect of trees in your model using component blocks.  These can be positioned in space, and the transmittance can be set using the construction model data. By default, the transmittance of component blocks is 0, i.e. it is fully opaque all of the time.  You can change the transmittance of all component blocks by changing this at the building level, or you can override the default by setting the transmittance of individual component blocks by selecting them in the navigator. More information on using component blocks for shading can be found in the help at:

https://designbuilder.co.uk/helpv7.3/#Component_Block_Material.htm
