Zone Occupancy Count report

Modified on Fri, 12 Sep at 12:14 PM

It is possible to generate both a report and a graphical view of occupancy counts by using extra IDF outputs together with the DesignBuilder Results Viewer.

This enables you to check and report the number of occupants in each zone.

There are two ways to create the custom outputs:
1 - With custom IDF
2 - With EMS Script

- Custom IDF Approach:

1 - Download the attached IDF (OutputOccupancy.idf) file and save it in the EnergyPlus folder (File > Folders > EnergyPlus).
2 - In the ‘Edit Calculation Options’ dialogue, go to the ‘Options’ tab and the ‘Advanced header’ and include the extra IDF:

3 - After running the simulation, open the results in the Results Viewer and check the output:

- EMS Script Approach

For this approach, you will need the Scripting module/license.
1 - Click on the ‘Scripts’ tool:

2 - Select the Enable Scripts option and add a new EMS Script

3 - Name it as ‘Zone people occupant count’. The name helps to understand what the script will do.

Note: Select the 'Enable program' option.

4 - Click to add an output

Note: If the following message appears, click ‘Yes’ and wait until DesignBuilder generates the file

5 - Select the Zone People Occupant Count

6 - You can change the timestep by hanging the ‘Interval’  before selecting the output (a)  or rewriting it (b):

a) Selecting the interval:

b) Rewriting the frequency:

7 - Click on ‘Ok’ to close the window and select the program. Then, click ‘Ok’ again and run the simulation.
The output will be available in the Results Viewer.
