This solution is only valid for DesignBuilder v6 or older.
If you are getting this error in version 7 or v2025.1 then see the article: An internal error has occurred. Daylight simulation has been aborted.
When running an Annual daylighting simulation in DesignBuilder version 6 and the following error is displayed:
- An internal error has occurred. Daylight simulation has been aborted.
To fix this please unzip the attachment and replace the file ds_el_lighting.exe at the DesignBuilder version 6 installation folder C:\Program Files (x86)\DesignBuilder\Daysim\bin

Then run the Annual daylighting simulation.
