Guidance to setup network license for multi-site access

Modified on Thu, 17 Aug, 2023 at 9:02 AM

Setting up the system is a relatively straightforward process. Here are the steps to follow for configuring the DesignBuilder software on the user's machine:

1. Establish a VPN Connection: The remote user should first log in through a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to establish a secure connection with your organization's network. This will provide access to the server hosting the license.

2. Install DesignBuilder Software: Once the VPN connection is established, the user needs to install the DesignBuilder software on their machine.

3. Setting up Client Machines: To set up site network licensing on a client computer (i.e. the computer that is to run DesignBuilder) follow the instructions below.

Open the Licence Manager dialog (Help > Licence). Click on the Licence button to open the Licence Manager Wizard.

Select the Site network license option and press Next.

On the second page enter:

a. Either the name of the server or its IP address.

You can find the IP address of your server by typing ipconfig in the Windows Command box on the server machine.

b. The default port number is 5053.

When you click the Finish button the connection to the License Server is established based on the port number and IP address you provided on the dialog.

If the site network licence connection was successful you will be shown the Modules Licence tab displaying the license status of each module.

However, please ensure that you have entered the correct server hostname or IP address. If the server is not running or if the License Server service is inactive, the licenses will not be accessible, and you will encounter error messages.

Once you return to the main License Manager dialog, you can manage the module licenses by using the checkboxes in the "Use" column.

To check out a license, select the corresponding checkbox, and to check it back in, deselect the checkbox.
