Setting up server details on multiple client PCs

Modified on Mon, 2 Dec at 4:19 PM

Licensing is set up after the main DesignBuilder MSI installation.

There are 2 ways to set up site network licenses on the client machine(s):

1.  Manually by opening the DesignBuilder License Manager and following step 3 in this article: Guidance to setup network license for multi-site access

2. Silently set up the site license details on the client machine using a script to override the DBSystemSettings.txt file stored at C:\ProgramData\DesignBuilder.

For option 2, you will need to create a script that can be run to replace the original DBSystemSettings.txt file at each client/lab machine by one with your server details.

The file DBSystemSettings.txt containing the server information is available at C:\ProgramData\DesignBuilder

The file will need to include text something like:

ACTIVATION_CODES=
LICENCE_SERVER=5053@dbserver01
USE_LICENCE_SERVER=Y

where dbserver01 is the name (or IP address) of the server.

The client machine DBSimLServer service needs to be stopped during this process (from the Windows Services area) and the SimL.log file deleted from C:\ProgramData\DesignBuilder before replacing the DBSystemSettings.txt file.

After restarting the client machine, the DBSimLServer service, DesignBuilder should pick up the license when the user starts a new session.
