Setting Up a Licence Server for Site Network Licenses

Modified on Tue, 8 Oct at 3:29 PM

The steps to set up DesignBuilder Site Licenses are as follows:

Step 1- Set up the Server service and activate the code.

1. Download the designb_rlm_vxx.zip file from the Download > Server Software area of the DesignBuilder website - latest version is Site License Server for Windows (RLM v15)

2. Extract the designb_rlm_vxx.zip files to the folder on the server to be used to host DesignBuilder site license (e.g. c:\RLMSERVER)

3. Obtain the License file by clicking on activate.cmd script available inside the server RLM folder. This will open the activation webpage where the server details are automatic filled in.

Enter the 8-digit activation code and click "Activate License".

The activate.cmd command works only in servers with internet connection. For server computers without internet access refer to If your server cannot access the Internet

4. Download the .lic file and place a copy in the site license installation folder on your server.

5. Open a Command Window (CMD window) with elevated privileges and use the cd command to navigate to the RLM v15 folder.

6. Then install the service 'DesignBuilder License Server' by running the service_install.cmd script.

7. Go to Windows Services area and start the 'DesignBuilder License Server' service.

8. Open the rlm admin interface clicking on the 'admin_interface.cmd script located in the RLM folder and enter the details:

user=admin
passw=admin

At the left panel navigate to the 'Change password' and set up a new password, otherwise the server will be closed after 10 minutes.

9. Go to Status panel and check if the "designb ISV has started and the license file picked up.
If not, press Reread/Restart Servers option.

10. Add the firewall outbound exceptions for port 5053, 5054 and create a program exception for the "rlm.exe" that is located at your server RLM folder.

11. If the server is behind a firewall that you have to specify pinholes to get access then follow these instructions:

  1. Add an exception for port 5053 and 5054 which are the service default ports
  2. Specify a port for the second service. Our example used on the Program Help below is port 49670.
  3. To specify the port used by the secondary service, you will need to edit the license file using a text editor.
    1. Add the following line below the ISV designb line in the license file:
      port=nnnnn

    2. On the second line you should see "ISV designb" but the "port=..." part is probably not present.
      Be sure to insert after "designb", a space, followed by "port=", followed directly by a port number – one example is 49670.
    3. Then save the changes made at the lic file
    4. Restart the "DesignBuilder License Server" Window service at the server 'Services' area .
