Removing virtual store folders

Modified on Thu, 17 Aug, 2023 at 10:20 AM

This article refers to installations on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8, not Windows XP.

DesignBuilder must be able to write to certain folders. In particular, DesignBuilder must be able to write to:

C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\DesignBuilder\

and

C:\ProgramData\DesignBuilder

In some cases, this access can be denied by Windows. In such cases, Windows will create VirtualStore folders and write files to the following locations instead:

C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\DesignBuilder

C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\DesignBuilder

If you are having unexplained problems with DesignBuilder and the above folders exist then you should try removing these folders and then reinstalling the software.
