Overview
When reviewing licence information in the RLM web interface, particularly on the Licence Server Status page, the displayed expiration date may not always reflect all licences accurately.
This article explains how expiration dates are determined when multiple licences are combined into a single licence pool.
RLM Documentation: https://docs.reprisesoftware.com/docs/admin/rlm-web-server.html#license-server-statusKey Behaviour
1. Earliest Expiration Date is Displayed
- The expiration date shown in the RLM status table represents:
the earliest expiration date among all licences in the pool - This means:
- Even if other licences expire later, they will not be shown individually
- The displayed date reflects only the first licence due to expire
2. How Licence Pools are Created
Licences are combined into a single licence pool when their key parameters match (e.g. product, version, options, etc.).
- Multiple licences can form one pool
- These licences may:
- Come from the same licence file
- Come from different licence files
3. Other Licences May Still Be Valid
- Licences within the same pool can have different expiration dates
- Any licence in the pool remains valid as long as it has not expired, even if:
- Another licence in the same pool has already expired
- The displayed date suggests an earlier expiry
4. How to Verify All Expiration Dates
To see the full set of expiration dates:
- Open the actual licence file(s) used by the server
- Review each licence entry individually
The RLM web interface does not list all individual expiry dates for pooled licences
Practical Implications
- The expiration date shown on the server status page may appear earlier than expected
- This does not necessarily mean all licences have expired
- Support teams should:
- Check licence files before concluding the licence pool has expired
- Be aware that pooled licences may extend beyond the visible date
Summary
- RLM combines matching licences into a single pool
- Only the earliest expiration date is displayed
- Other licences in the pool may still be valid
- Always check the licence file for a complete picture
