Site license server migration

To transition the site license to a new server, follow these steps:

  1. Install the DesignBuilder server software on the new server - Site License Server for Windows (RLM v11)

  2. Contact DB UK team that the site license needs to be moved to the new server. This can be done by raising a ticket on the Support Desk.
  3. Activate the code following the steps described on
  1. Set up the server firewall.
    The ports used by our license server that needs to be opened at the server firewall are 5053 and 5054. The RLM License server operates on random ports, so the most effective approach is to not allow exceptions by port, but rather by program. For instance, you can open all ports used by "rlm.exe".
      But if the server is behind a firewall that you have to specify pinholes to get access then follow these instructions:

                 a. Add an exception for port 5053 and 5054 which are the service default ports

                 b. Specify a port for the second service. Our example used on the Program Help below is port 49670.

                      i) To specify the port used by the secondary service, you will need to edit the license file using a text editor.

                      ii) Add the following line below the ISV designb line in the license file:
                           port=nnnnn

                    iii) On the second line you should see "ISV designb" but the "port=..." part is probably not present.
                          Be sure to insert after "designb", a space, followed by "port=", followed directly by a port number – one example is 49670.

                     iv) Then save the changes made at the lic file

                      v) Restart the "DesignBuilder License Server" Window service at the server 'Services' area .
