BRUKL Ventilation Reporting (SBEM v5)

The BRUKL Report has 9 categories (A-I) for classifying local mechanical ventilation:

However, SBEM is not set up to enable all categories to be reported.

The BRUKL Report includes a description of the categories and a separate table listing the zones that have been matched to a category.

Unfortunately there are limitations to what SBEM can report.

This table will only report settings made on the HVAC tab & under the Ventilation Header:

1. Settings made under the Local Ventilation sub-header

Will be classified as E: Local balanced supply and extract ventilation system.

2. Settings made under the header Local Mechanical Extract (also referred to as Exhaust):

Note that Local Mechanical Extract represents a supplementary ventilation system, usually where there are additional contaminants (eg odours from toilets / cooking etc).

1-Fan remote from zone will be reported in C: Zonal extract system where the fan is remote from the zone

2-Fan within zone will be reported in A: Local supply or extract ventilation units

3-Fan remote from zone with grease filter will be reported in I: Kitchen extract, fan remote from zone with grease filter

3. Settings made under the 'Do you know the TU specific fan power' header

Note this header only appears if the HVAC System assigned to the zone is either

A Fan Coil Unit OR an Indoor packaged cabinet (VAV)

Terminal Unit SFP will be classified as H: Fan coil units

Thus the following categories are not available to any SBEM v6.1.e interface:

B: Zonal supply system where the fan is remote from the zone

D: Zonal balanced supply and extract ventilation units, such as ceiling void or roof units

F: Other local ventilation units

G: Fan assisted terminal variable air volume (VAV) units

B and D are not available as SBEM has no mechanism to group zones in order to specify the system as 'Zonal'. Additionally, SBEM does not require main ventilation systems to be defined as:

    · Supply only

    · Extract only

    · Supply and Extract

And thus classes all these system in the same category

F is not available as there are only fixed categories of ventilation available

G is not available, presumably due to a bug or software not able to link the zone level input of terminal unit with the system type.

If you have systems which employ any of these missing classifications then you will presumably need to report these on the BRUKL_2 form (model_brukl_2.pdf in the SBEM folder).

DSM

DSM in V7.2.0 largely has the same issues as SBEM as it was assumed the reporting should follow that used by SBEM. There is one difference however in that DSM can report category G.

Improvements to the reporting in DSM are planned for the v8 release.
