License error message (-105)

Modified on Thu, 17 Aug, 2023 at 8:59 AM

The error message (-105) is related to a failed connection to our licensing server most likely caused by a firewall or proxy server between your computer and our server lic.designbuilder.co.uk. Some internet providers have a proxy server monitoring your connection that may cause this issue.

I'm afraid that there isn't much our support team can do on our end to fix this. Therefore, the following items need to be checked, most likely by your IT department or your internet provider since it requires admin privileges:

1. Turn off all VPN connections,

2. Avoid using open WI-FI connections or restricted internet connections,

3. Use another internet connection, for example, a phone hotspot or home broadband,

4. Temporarily switch off the firewall and any security software running on your machine that may be blocking the activation process.

5. Contact your IT team to check if there is a firewall blocking designbuilder.exe from accessing the host lic.designbuilder.co.uk

If there is a firewall at your site, then it will need to allow designbuilder.exe to access the internet for HTTP (ports 80);

Since the machine only needs to connect once to the lic.designbuilder.co.uk server in order to activate, other users have managed to activate DesignBuilder using a different network connection (for example, phone Wi-Fi,...), switching the firewall/proxy off for a limited time until the activation process is completed.
