Problems to run DesignBuilder MSI installer in Parallels

Modified on Fri, 19 Sep at 4:29 PM

This issue may be caused by Parallels automatically appending a .exe extension to the installer file during download or transfer between macOS and Windows environments.

Parallels sometimes modifies file extensions when moving files between operating systems. In this case, the installer file may be renamed to something like:

DesignBuilder-6.1.0.006.msi.exe

Windows then treats it as an executable .exe file instead of a proper .msi installer, which prevents the installation from proceeding correctly.

To resolve the issue:

- Locate the downloaded installer file (e.g., DesignBuilder-6.1.0.006.msi.exe)

- Rename the file by removing the .exe extension:

- Right-click the file and select Rename

- Change the filename to:

DesignBuilder-6.1.0.006.msi

- Double-click the renamed .msi file to begin installation.

Make sure file extensions are visible in Windows Explorer:

- Go to View > Show > File name extensions

This helps you confirm the file has the correct .msi extension.
